Many Nigerians have weighed in on, the historic removal of Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan from office on Thursday.
Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide has joined millions in the world to hail the courage of the Sudanese people for taking their destiny in their own hands, and ousting from office, a man who has held them down for 30 long years.
The removal of Al-Bashir was orchestrated via a coup which was led by Sudanese defence minister, Awad Ibn Auf, on Thursday morning.
The military has announced that the constitution has been suspended and it will now be in charge of the country for two years from today.
It also announced the declaration of a three-month state of emergency while protesters are calling for an immediate set up of a democratic transition.
A large number of political prisoners have also been set free, and in a televised address Thursday at about Nigerian 2:00 p.m, Mr Ibn Auf said:
“I announce as minister of defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its chief in a secure place.
The journey to oust out Al-Bashir, who had ruled for 30 years from office started with a five days of massive protests across Sudan.
The protesters also demanded that no one near power within the time Al-Bashir ruled should be allowed near power again.
According to Omokri, the Al Bashir’s case should serve as warning to “other African war criminals.”
He added that those who “killed 347 unarmed Nigerian Shiite men, women, children and infants”, should also prepare to face war crimes.
He wrote via a tweet on Thursday, thus: Let what‘s happening to Omar Al-Bashir in Sudan be a warning to other African war criminals. Al-Bashir will soon answer for his crimes.
