Drama As Man Standing Trial Suddenly Faints Inside Osogbo High Court

Punch Metro reports that counsel and people inside Osogbo Federal High Court I, could only watched helplessly, as an accused person standing trial in Osogbo Federal High Court I for alleged fraud, Surajudeen Bada, fainted on Wednesday during proceedings and had to be rushed out of the court room by prison officials.

Surajudeen, an Islamic cleric from Ilorin, Kwara State, was standing trial alongside two others namely Owoseye Dorcas and Akinola Ibitayo, for allegedly defrauding a member of Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Lekan Afolabi.

The accused, it was alleged, swindled the plaintiff of a sum of N38m, the amount obtained from Afolabi under false pretences.

Upon their arrest, the accused persons were arraigned before Justice Maureen Onyetenu of an Osogbo Federal High Court.

It was learnt the accused were early this year granted bail by the court because counsel involved in the matter, said out of court settlement was being worked out among the parties; but the parties could not settle the matter, forcing the court to revoke the bail and remand the accused in prison custody .

At the resumed hearing of the matter, Surajudeen, who looked visibly sick could barely sit, and was fanned by another inmate, who sat close to him before he was directed to the dock.

The counsel for the accused, Mr Promise Jones, pleaded with the court to allow Surajudeen to sit down during the proceedings and the judge granted the request and a seat was provided for him.

Addressing the court, Jones pleaded with the court to vary bail conditions for his client because he could not provide surety residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
