The Final-Four playoffs of the Continental Basketball League tips off on Saturday with Abidjan Raiders and Yaoundé Giants battling in the first game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, while Eko Kings hope to maintain their unbeaten run when they take on Lagos City Stars same day.
The CBL features players from the USA, Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Cameroon, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Chad, Ghana and the Bahamas.
Kings snatched a win from City Stars in their last match in Yaoundé, Cameroon, after trailing for most part of the encounter until less than a minute to the buzzer. The winners will play the final match on Sunday.
Five games were played over three days in Cameroon with Eko Kings coached by Ayo Bakare maintaining their unbeaten run.
Meanwhile, the final stage of the May Madness tournament was preceded by the All-Stars game, which also featured three-point shootouts and slam dunks. Mayes Jordin from the US won the three-pointer contest after beating fellow Americans Mark Hill, Israel Faulcon and Jared Grady. The Lagos City Stars guard also edged Thierry Gomis from Cameroon who plays for Yaoundé Giants.
The slam dunk contest was won by City Stars’ Thomas Doug. It was an emotional night for Thomas, who lost his brother same day the game was played.
The West Team coached by Ayo Bakare defeated the Central Team coached by Godfrey Dosseh 119-113 while American Thomas George of Eko Kings was the MVP of the stars’ game.
