Brace yourselves-this one's going to sting. Netflix sweetheart and good guy Peter Kavinsky of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (a.k.a. Noah Centineo) has been accused of ghosting-and he did it to actress Busy Phillips' friend nonetheless.
To make it all the more cringe-worthy, Busy told James Corden about Noah's not-so-great dating game...while Noah was sitting right next to her.
It all went down on Wednesday when the pair appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and the host asked Busy if she would ever pair one of her friends up with Noah.
That's when Busy dropped this bomb: "Actually, he was kind of chatting with a friend of mine, but then he ghosted her,” prompting a boo from the audience.
At first, Noah said he didn't know who she was referring to, but when she clarified it was "one of my writers on my show,” his reaction said it all. "Ahhh!" he said and the two laughed it off.
What is ghosting anyway?
Sure, it seems innocent enough-even kinda adorable-when the internet's boyfriend Noah Centineo cops to it. But if you've been ghosted before, well, then you know it totally sucks.
The New York Times noted in a 2015 article that the term, obviously, stems from the word "ghost." It's used as an explainer for someone who was once a regular in your life and goes MIA without any explanation.
And according to a 2014 poll by YouGov, more than 10 percent of 1,000 U.S. adults have ghosted someone as a means of breaking up with them.
Yeah, so, it blows.
What should you do if you've been ghosted?
The only real answer here is to straight-up move on. (You can read about these six women who ghosted their fiances if you want to feel better about your life, though.)
Rachel Sussman, L.C.S.W., previously told Women's Health that women should thank their lucky stars if they get ghosted-because it's probably a sign the guy wasn't worth your time anyway. (You're breaking my heart, Noah!) "Know that if you were in a relationship with that guy and there was a problem, he would probably handle it in the same way," she says.
If you're tempted to reach out-just to make sure your ghoster is still, you know, alive, Sussman recommends sending a casual text telling him you hope he's okay and that you'd like to see or hear from him again soon.
But if he doesn't reply within four days-move the eff on. If he reappears later on? Proceed with caution-but know that he's probably either bored or looking for a booty call, she says. Harsh, but if you've been there, you know it's so, so true.
