Hearing on community, Chevron N1bn suit for May 7

The one billion Naira compensation suit filed by Timi Oluba, Okoyitoru community, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government of Delta State, against oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has been adjourned to May 7 for further hearing.

Mr. Imuekemhe Aliyu, counsel to Oluba, had filed a suit against Chevron and Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation before the High Court, Warri.

Oluba is demanding N1 billion from Chevron as compensation to Okoyitoru community, whose land had been devastated as a result of oil exploration.

He is asking Chevron to embark on the pilling and sand filling of the community to avoid further disaster and also for Chevron to commence an Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, in Okoyitoru community and the entire Makaraba Oilfield.

The presiding judge, after cross examination of the plaintiff, adjourned till May 7 for further hearing.
