Customs officials in Hamburg presented a record haul of 3.8 tonnes of cocaine with a street value of $920m to the media on Thursday.
The haul, which originated in South America, was displayed under tight security in a military barracks in the northern port city of Hamburg.
The drugs, which were stacked before the press in colourful, shrink-wrapped plastic packages, were seized in three batches during customs operations in Hamburg’s harbour earlier in the year.
The haul was the first time several tonnes of class `A’ drugs were seized by German customs.
