LASG rolls out DIQP for placement test

Folashade Adebayo

The Lagos State Government has said that it will henceforth deploy the Digital Innovation Question Paper for its placement test and other public examinations in the state.

The DIQP is a style of examination which involves the randonmisation of questions and answers options to thousands of types that have no similarities or resemblance.

According to the Director of the state’s Examinations Board, Mr. Oluwafemi Hassan, the deployment of the DIQP will end examination malpractice in public examinations.

He said this on Wednesday while monitoring the computer-based variant of the placement test into the state’s Model/Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools in Lagos.

“The DIQP makes cheating impossible as each question paper has as part of security features embossment of candidates’ photographs, barcode, biodata of candidates and, above all, each question paper has its own answer. The questions were randomised to 38,000 types and 38, 000 keys for marking,’’ he said.

Hassan, who noted that there was an upsurge in the number of candidates who sat for the CBT variant, urged parents and schools to ensure that their children were exposed to adequate ICT training to make it easier for them to sit for CBT examinations.

He said, “The CBT is not a monster and it has many advantages. There are 79 candidates sitting for the CBT test today and that is an improvement because 54 candidates sat for it in 2016 and only 17 candidates chose the CBT when we started in 2015. But we still have about 10,000 candidates who will sit for the Paper-based Test variant.

“The world is going digital and Lagos State is a centre of excellence. The CBT is the best option because you get the results immediately the candidates finish. In fact, parents who are waiting outside already have the results before the candidates come to them.’’
