British Council honours outstanding pupils

Fifty-eight exceptional pupils in the Cambridge International Examinations have been honoured by the British Council.

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations is written by students in 40 countries across six continents annually.

The pupils who achieved academic excellence in the ‘Top of the World’ and the ‘Top in Nigeria’ categories were on Friday presented with certificates at the inaugural Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards organised by the British Council in Lagos.

While Honour Olatunji of Greensprings Schools, Lekki, Lagos, was honoured for being the best in Additional Mathematics in the ‘Top in the World’ category, four other pupils of the school were recognised in the ‘Top in Nigeria’ category, for having the best results in different subjects. The school was also rewarded with the Outstanding Child Protection Practices award.

Three pupils of Ambassadors Group of Schools, Ota, Ogun State, Victor Anyaegbunam, Emmanuel Daniel-Aguebor and Olatunde Olaposi, were recognised for being the best in Mathematics in the Top in the World category in the 2015 edition of the examinations.

Also, three A level students of Oxbridge College, Lagos, were presented certificates in the ‘Top in the Country’ category in the 2016 edition. Oxbridge College also emerged as the only A level college which won the British Council Recognition Award for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Director, Cambridge International Examinations, Sub-Saharan Africa, Juan Visser, said, “We are very proud of the performance of our Cambridge learners in Nigeria.  Their outstanding achievements not only reflect their determination and passion to succeed but also indicate the immense dedication and commitment of Cambridge teachers.”
