20 members of the LLTC who were arrested were detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
20 members of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club were arrested by the police on Monday, January 30 over an internal crisis, a source told Pulse Sports.
Pulse Sports learnt that members and executives of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club have fallen out over disagreements with the running of the tennis club.
The disagreements are over the development of a section of the clubhouse, increased annual subscription fee and the life insurance premium payments.
According to Pulse Sports source, the whole disagreement started over the development of a section of the club which some members complain was done with their consent.
“Some members were angry that a section of the club was given to a developer without the knowledge of some members,” the anonymous source told Pulse Sports when we visited the foremost recreational and social club.
Another cause of the crises was the increment of the annual subscription fee by the LLTC club’s Executive Secretary, Adewunmi Adisa without consulting anybody.
“Adisa who also acts as the custodian of the club increased the annual subscription payable by members without even discussing it with any member,” Pulse Sports source continued.
“The members have also been told to pay for premium life insurance.”
These disagreements led some disgruntled members to call for an extraordinary general meeting by collecting signatures of other members an action they said was in accordance with the club’s constitution.
The police were called in by the LLTC President, Mr Rotimi Edu, who wrote a petition against the members who called for the extraordinary general meeting.
20 members of the LLTC who were arrested were detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
They were released the next day.
Pulse Sports visited the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, located on Lagos Island and also learnt that while some members want to continue to request the extraordinary meeting, others have backed out after the arrest.
